I Think Therefore I Am.

THE PHILOSOPHICAL CONNECTION

For millenniums great minds have delved into the mysteries of the universe. In the School of Athens we have many noted philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato. As time marched on so did our desire to continue to contemplate our existence and relationship with the heavens. In the midst of all this was an underlying philosophy, the Hermetic Philosophy that has endured. One great mind in particular, Isaac Newton, was heavily into that line of thought. Next we look to Albert Einstein who, like Newton, followed along a similar route. Interestingly we were not relayed that information on Einstein however Einstein's niece disclosed an interesting book her uncle often referred to which was based on the Hermetic Philosophy. Will Durant once stated, "Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art." (Will Durant, The Story of Philosophy, 1926)

In the paragraph above it is evident that many great minds were on some level philosophers, just like Rene Descartes. During Rene's life he made a well-known statement which is “I think, therefore, I am.” (from the Meditations on First Philosophy)

Your Activity: From the information in our past lectures please post your thoughts on how Descartes's statement above relates to the aura.
