What is Thai Massage?
Thai Massage is one of the oldest forms of medicine.
It is practiced throughout Thailand, and its origins date back well over 2,000 years and was originally practiced by the Buddhist Monks. The main focus is with the body’s energy line system, known as Sen lines. In Chinese medicine the energy lines that are used are called meridians. The energy lines in thai massage and Chinese medicine are not the same. There are ten main Sen lines in Thai massage and when disharmony occurs, this results in blockages and dis-ease. Thai massage, like Chinese medicine uses massage techniques(or acupuncture in Chinese medicine) to help clear these blockages, assisting the body’s own natural healing process to restore balance.
Thai Massage
The therapist uses combinations of acupressure, massage and gently applied yoga stretches using hands, feet, forearms and elbows in a flowing series of moves. Like any massage technique it should have a rhythmical flow to it. Energy lines (Sen), acupressure points, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints are massaged and then stretched. It is a massage like no other.
Because of the facilitated yoga stretches in this massage style, thai massage is quite often known simply as Yoga Massage, and has a long history of therapeutic healing in Thailand.
Thai Massage starts with massage techniques using gentle rhythmical movements, then more pressure is used to stimulate the sen lines and work the soft tissues and after that we stretch the body.
This is most definitely my favorite form of massage to receive and perform!
